fashion conundrums.
i kind of love everything about this outfit. the skirt is new, so that’s fun. and the deep blue just makes me happy. and obviously i’ve already admitted to my infatuation with the tied shirt trend. and those nude pumps always make me feel fabulous.
confessions of a white girl: the pumps aren’t technically the shoe color “nude.” nope, they are actually the shoe color “bone,” because my extreme whiteness was too much for “nude.” had to tone it down to “bone” to get that streamlined leg look.
but i think people would get weirded out if i referred to them as my “bone pumps.” although come to think of it, my ” nude pumps” isn’t much better. so what do i call them???
oh, the fashion conundrums.

it’s cyber monday. and i gave in to the brilliance.
it’s cyber monday, and i gave into the madness. except it’s not really madness, it’s actually brilliance!
see, i love clothes, and i LOVE great deals…
but i kind of hate waking up early, especially to do battle with crazy people and stand in line for hours. (ie…i’m not a black friday kind of girl. i mean, i still went shopping on black friday, but i went at like 2pm. i’m so not hardcore.)
anyways, back to the brilliance of cyber monday: i just shopped on my lunch break at work. i didn’t have to wake up early. i didn’t have to battle any psycho shoppers. AND i got some fantabulous deals.
here’s the skinny…ASOS.com was already having a 25% off sale.
but then i scooped up an extra 20% off code (HAPPYBLACKFRIDAY) from cup of jo!
cha-ching!
my original total was $117.26. admittedly still a great deal for so many pretty things.
but then cyber monday came along and made my day even more awesome…and the grand total came out to 93.81!! for ALLL the things below!!
and bonus…ASOS offers free returns/exchanges…so it’s like a win-win-win situation. or something.
oh, and one more thing. i kind of love that all of the items i bought could be worn together. (well, you know, one pair of tights at a time, but you get my drift.) makes me feel like the money was even more worth it. 93 buckaroos for a complete outfit?
yep, sure, i’ll take it!
cyber monday…you’ve got yourself a new fan.

baby steps.
i am love love loving two trends i’ve been seeing recently:
and
2) color blocking.
this was a bit of a weak attempt at color blocking, considering i just went with two different shades of blue.
but it’s baby steps, people. baby steps.
and tying my shirt?
well, i’ve done it three times in the last week or so.
yep, i’m a fan.

how to wear: hot pink tights
so, i wore this outfit to work. yep, hot pink tights to my corporate 9-5. hey, a girl’s gotta do something to spice up the everyday mundane, right??
and, funny thing…the day after i wore this outfit and snapped these pics, my friend clara (who doesn’t work with me and hadn’t seen this outfit) messaged me that she almost bought hot pink tights but had no idea how to style them “without looking like punky brewster.” that’s a legit problem right there!
so, here’s how you do it. or shall i say, here’s how i did it.
i had purchased the tights over the summer (best time to get a good deal) and i was dying to wear them…but like clara, i was a little unsure of how to rock the pink without looking too cray-cray for work. so, i decided if i was going to have a leg party going on (the redheaded stepchild of the arm party perhaps?), i should probably go for neutral and professional with the rest of the outfit. so, white and gray are pretty neutrals and look sweet with pink, and a blazer makes any outfit more “professional.” (or so i tell myself…although lauren conrad does a great job rocking the casual blazer, so maybe we i need to stereotyping blazers. blazers have feelings too.)
to sum up (hehe pun intended):
neutrals + blazer + hot pink tights = cure for the common clothes
now that i’ve figured out a good little equation for working bright tights into my 9-5 wardrobe, i want more colors! i do have a kickin’ teal color and a yellow pair already, but i.want.MORE!

cuffed.
so, fridays at my full-time job are casual day, which generally means jeans. i am not a huge fan of jeans, but i usually wear them on friday anyway. i have yet to find any other kind of casual pants that fit me quite right, and i wear skirts pretty much every other day of the week…so yeah. i give in to the jeans on fridays. but, since jeans are just jeans, i have to put my own little wendy spin on them by rolling the cuffs. which really just began because i am short and jeans are long and i’m too lazy to get them tailored. but then i decided i kind of love it, so the cuffed jeans are here to stay.
uhhh, yeah. that’s all i’ve got to say at the moment. what?? wendy is lacking for words?? that never happens. except right now. because i’m tired. and probably going to go to bed early-ish tonight, which means i should stop writing nonsense on here. but the real world is on tv, and i’m sucked into this episode already. doh.
so what else could i tell you while i sit here and rot my brain? um, i ate burrito brother’s for the first time tonight. which if you live in gainesville, you know it’s ridiculous that i have lived here the majority of my life and never eaten there. but now i have, and it was awesome, and i’m hooked.
man, i’ve got nothing of interest to say tonight. so lame-o. sorry guys.
just look at that pretty cardigan and pretend you didn’t waste your time reading this hot mess of a post.
night night.

looks like candy.
ugh. i had this whole post all typed out and lovely, and wordpress decided to freak out and lose the whole thing. thanks, thanks for that, wordpress. and bonus…i couldn’t get it to refresh til this morning, so by that time i forgot everything i had written.
all i remember is that i was going to tell you that a guy at work told me i looked like candy when i was wearing this outfit. compliment? sure why not.
other than that, i pretty much blathered on about how this skirt was too short for work without tights and then i added tights and voila…magically work appropriate.
oh, and i think i said this outfit made me feel awesome, which always makes my day more awesomer, and in fact, i had a very successful meeting on the day i wore this outfit. so yeah. dress for success, people.
that may or may not have recapped what i wrote last night in a slightly less eloquent and certainly less witty way. sorry, guys. that’s all i got. shake your fists at wordpress for me.
kthanksbye.

winter shorts
in florida we have a grand total of two seasons…
season 1: HOT
season 2: slightly-less-hot-and-occasionally-cold-ish
i think people who live in legitimately cold climates actually own clothes meant only for summer or only for winter, and they can “put away” certain items of clothing for a good part of the year, knowing they won’t have the opportunity to wear them.
not so in florida, my friends. it could be 80 degrees on christmas day and then in the 20s on new year’s eve…florida weather is schizo like that.
so, while i do “put away” my coats and heavy sweaters during the HOT season, i keep absolutely everything else in my closet year ’round.
i use the tights and boots method of dress to keep my shorts relevant and practical throughout the year. as much as i love the shorts and a blazer look, shorts are only practical for me during the winter cold-ish season with tights or leggings thrown into the mix.
what? i freeze in the cold-ish season, peoples! and even though we are taught (brainwashed?) that beauty is pain, i mostly disagree with that. i enjoy being comfortable. i just do. sure, i might rock pair of heels on a night out, knowing i will be barefoot and wincing by 2am, but that’s about the only time i’ll sacrifice a body part for the sake of fashion. plus, i heart tights (have you noticed that by now?), so any excuse to wear them is a-ok with me.
but i digress.
the point is, when you are getting dressed, don’t forget your shorts.
EDITED TO ADD: i got asked whether i wore this to work, and i realized i totally should have specified. still new to this style posting thing…bear with me! i actually wore this outfit on the weekend, to a wii/board game party. :)

color. pattern. texture. shine.
if you’ve ever watched the show what not to wear, you’ve heard stacy and clinton chant the fashion mantra “color pattern texture shine”….but have you ever really thought about why they say it?
let’s take this outfit for example: if my skirt was black instead of patterned, or my shirt was white or grey instead of teal, the outfit would be completely different…and frankly, more boring.
but by wearing one piece with a bold graphic print, paired with tights that have texture and a subtle pattern of their own, plus a pop of color in the shirt and the juxtaposition of structure in the jacket with slouch in boots…
well, just those simple changes took this outfit from standard and so-so to eye-catching and kind of fun.
and yet, it’s still completely work appropriate, just more me.
and yeah, so i didn’t work any “shine” into this outfit, but i think three out of four is enough in one outfit.
trust me, i’ll bust out the bling another time.

girl’s got style | bri emery
yo yo yo…it’s friday, ya’ll! i’m extra specially happy this particular friday, because a) i am finally (mostly) recovered from the cold that kicked my arse this week and b) it’s homecoming weekend here in gator country, so it means i’ve got friends coming into town for the game! and they are staying with me!
yep. should be good times all around.
but that’s not really what i’m here to share with you peoples today.
i want to start a new friday blog topic called “girl’s got style.” you’ve probably seen that i’ve started posting some of my own personal style pictures, but trust me…i am just one of MANY girls who do this, and there are some truly fabulous girls out there sporting some seriously killer outfits. i find inspiration in their blogs all the time, and i want to share that loveliness with you!
so, every friday (hopefully), i will feature a style/fashion blogger. i wish i could say i knew these people and they were providing me with original content, but nope…i am just picking some of my favorite looks from what they’ve posted on their site to show you here.
make sense? okie dokie then!
first up, i want you all to know about bri emery. she’s a graphic designer in LA, the art director for rue magazine, the talent behind the fabulously awesome blog designlovefest, and she’s half of the duo that puts on blogshops all over the world. in other words, she’s awesome incarnate, with an insanely cool sense of style and a flair for the fantastic.
meet bri! (and seriously, go read her blog. the amount of inspiration is redonkulous.)
